£600,000 of Pride in Place Funding to Transform Coventry Market

Coventry’s indoor market (C. BBC Coventry and Warwickshire)

Coventry City Council has announced that £1.2 million will be invested into the city’s indoor market. The unique circular market is a historic part of Coventry city centre, existing on the site since 1958 and home to many small businesses. The funding will be used to clean and transform the outside of the market as well as revitalise the inside with new entrances, signage and lighting.

£600,000 of the investment is through the Government’s Pride in Place initiative. Nationally, Pride in Place investments will total over £5.8 billion for 284 overlooked neighbourhoods. The programme aims to build stronger communities, create thriving places and empower local people. Binley and Willenhall in Coventry East, is set to receive £20 million under this scheme.  A further £400,000 is coming from the West Midland’s Combined Authority, led by Labour Mayor Richard Parker.

Mary Creagh, MP for Coventry East, said:

“I am delighted that Coventry’s indoor market is getting £1.2 million. Our market is the historic heart of the community in the city centre, and this money will rejuvenate it for many more generations to enjoy. This wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic work of our Labour government and Labour Regional Mayor Richard Parker.

For fourteen years, Coventry’s funding, infrastructure, and opportunities were cut to the bone by successive Conservative governments. Labour is ensuring that Coventry gets a fair deal”
