Labour gives £150 for Energy Bills to 100s more Coventry Families this Winter

Labour is acting to protect families in Coventry by bringing forward plans to expand the Warm Home Discount, giving eligible households £150 off their energy bills. This will give much needed help to hundreds of families and pensioners on low incomes in Coventry East this winter.

The Spending Review also included £6.9 million grant for Citizen Housing in Coventry for them to install energy efficient upgrades to many of their homes in our city.

Almost three million more households, including 270,000 more families across the West Midlands, will get support next winter. This will bring the number of households that would receive the discount next winter up to an estimated 6.1 million.

The Labour government has also set out plans to accelerate a debt relief scheme, to tackle debt and reduce households’ energy costs. Additional cost of living support for families across the country, means that one in five families across Britain will get help with their bills.

Mary Creagh MP said “This announcement from Labour will make a real difference to families in Coventry East. Labour is determined to secure our energy system, protect it from the rollercoaster of fossil fuel markets and give working people the security they deserve. This additional support, the Labour government’s Plan for Change is putting money back in people’s pockets.”
