Mary Creagh MP speaks in support of sustainable fashion
Minister Creagh with WRAP UK CEO Catherine David
Mary Creagh MP spoke at a WRAP UK event championing the UK Textiles Pact, a key initiative driving sustainability in the fashion and textiles industry. WRAP UK promotes a circular economy, reducing waste and promoting reuse across sectors that account for nearly half of global emissions.
The textiles industry alone produces nearly 10% of global emissions, uses 93 billion cubic metres of water annually, and discards 711,000 tonnes of textiles in the UK each year. The UK Textiles Pact brings together industry leaders to find circular solutions to tackle challenges and ultimately transform how textiles are made, used, and disposed of.
Speaking at the event, Minister Creagh highlighted the Government’s upcoming Circular Economy Growth Plan. This plan will shift the UK away from the linear model of take, make, waste towards a circular economy that promotes repair, reuse, recycling. This Labour Government is committed to sustainable growth.
