Mary’s parents are both Irish and moved to Coventry in the 1960s. She spoke with members about their shared cultural history – and listened to their stories about life in the city.

The Coventry Irish Society was founded in 1993 and provides health and welfare services to some of the most vulnerable members of the Irish community in Coventry. The group also provide cultural and heritage-related projects including Irish language classes. Members frequently host social events to bring people together from across the city.

Mary praised the work they do, saying “Coventry Irish Society is a wonderful aspect of Coventry’s Irish community. People can meet new people, reconnect with old friends and share advice and delicious cake recipes! Whether getting advice from a friendly face, enjoying a cultural session, or just getting out of the house for a few hours and a way to preserve the rich heritage that we all share.”

Coventry Irish Society is a warm and welcoming space located in Eaton House beside Coventry station. If you would like to get involved with the Coventry Irish Society or know someone who might, contact their office on 02476 256629.
