Mary Visits Eden Girls’ School
Mary visited Eden Girls’s School on 27 June and met staff and students
Mary Creagh MP visited Eden Girls’ School in Foleshill where she met students and staff to learn about their mission for educational excellence. The school aims to foster a love for learning as well as a responsibility to achieve high academic standards in its 602 female students.
Mary spoke to Shuraa, from the student council, about all the additional work that they do, including running a foodbank on Friday afternoons, donating to the Coventry refugee and migrant centre Winter gift programme and supporting at local faith centres and visiting local care homes.
The school has 28% of students of free school meals currently. Many more pupils will benefit from the Labour government’s expansion of Free school meals to all children from households on Universal Credit from September, which will save parents around £500 per year for each child.
Despite the challenging circumstances many pupils face, the school has an impressive 96.8% attendance, and received almost four times as many applications as it had places for September last year. It is part of the Star Academies chain.
