Coventry Firm Showcases New Women’s Body Armour

Mary Creagh MP holding the newly developed women's armour system

Mary Creagh MP visited a showcase of women's body armour designed by Coventry manufacturer NP Aerospace. For years body armour has been shaped with men in mind, despite around 12% of the armed forces being women. As a result, the armour is less comfortable, less protective, and puts female personnel at greater risk. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and the intensity of aerial threats, highlights the importance of providing women on the front lines with adequate body armour.

NP Aerospace’s new armour system will protect women in our armed forces. Their system uses female-form ballistic plates to optimise comfort and protection.  The range of curved armour plates, soft armour inserts, and women-specific carriers fit over 95% of servicewomen. They ensure vital organs are protected from all angles, irrespective of body shape. Designed and manufactured in Coventry, this system fills a critical gap.

Mary Creagh opened NP Aerospace’s Coventry defence facility in May 2025 (below).
