Mary meets Yorkshire's BT Broadband team

The BT team responsible for bringing superfast broadband to Yorkshire visited Parliament on Wednesday 8 December. Wakefield MP Mary Creagh arranged for Martin Snaith, and the BT Openreach team, to tour the 150 year old Big Ben clock tower.  The team, which is based in Leeds, come from all over Yorkshire including Sheffield, Ilkley, Leeds, Otley and Wakefield.

The BT Yorkshire team’s work involves the provision and faulting of the new Optical Fibre Street Cabinets that will bring super fast Broadband to most parts of Britain by 2017.

Wakefield resident and BT Team Leader Martin Snaith said: “Being at the cutting edge of technology, so to speak, it was fascinating to see the Big Ben Clock tower and its workings. Cutting edge technology, 1850 style!! It’s amazing to think that in the last 150 years or so, technology has moved on so much, yet we all still rely on Big Ben and its time keeping, and the majority of the country will be looking towards that great clock on the evening of December 31st, to ring in the new year, and to mark the beginning of 2011.”
