Mary attends International Refugee Trust event
On 21 September Mary Creagh MP attended an event organised by the International Refugee Trust to raise awareness of atrocities carried out by the Lord's Resistance Army in Africa. As Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the prevention of Genocide and Crimes against Humanity, Mary was invited to talk at an event which was preceded by a barefoot peace march through central London.
The event at the Africa Centre also featured a "dark comedy" performance by writer Jane Bussman who recounted her experience of ending up in the heart of the Ugandan war zone, interviewing military leaders and children kidnapped to bolster Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army, and discovering just how little the government is doing to resolve the situation.
Mary said "I am appalled at the terrible atrocities committed by the Lords Resistance Army, particularly in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was good to see so many peace activists at the event at the Africa Centre. I also throughly enjoyed Jane Bussman's thought provoking performance as well as the excellent Ugandan musicians. I hope to bring Jane's show to Parliament later in the year."
