Tory cuts put Horbury Bridge crossing at risk

Mary Creagh and former councillor Brian Holmes have vowed to keep battling for a pedestrian crossing on the A642 junction at Netherton Lane.  The pair had previously presented a petition signed by residents to Wakefield's Labour Council calling for a crossing to be installed near Horbury Bridge school.  The Council had agreed to look into providing a crossing but have been forced to put the plans on hold following Tory/Lib Dem government cuts to Local Authority transport grants.

Mary and Brian will be writing to people who have signed the petition to renew their support for the much needed crossing.

Mary Creagh said "Residents contacted me about this issue and I met with parents at Horbury Bridge school who talked to me about their huge concerns about safety on the A642. These concerns are shared by the regulars at the local pub who obviously want to walk in safety with their families. The council assured me they would look into providing a pedestrian crossing. It would be a nightmare if the Tory/Lib Dem government’s funding cuts meant that all this work has been in vain. I hope we can still work with the council to come to a positive conclusion on this."
