Tory Twizzlers - Mary calls Tory food policy "a disgrace"
Shadow public health minister Mary Creagh joined Jamie Oliver in giving Tory food policy the thumbs down on 7th August after it emerged that the Tory/Lib Dem coalition's new "free schools" will be allowed to serve junk food to pupils.
The move is part of a worrying pattern in Tory food policy. Tory MEPs have rejected traffic light food labelling, they have broken up the Food Standards Agency and have let food firms pay for the Government's anti-obesity campaign in exchange for no new laws.
Mary said "The Tories' food policy is a disgrace. Jamie Oliver's programmes showed what happened when school dinners were left to private companies. They are wrecking the progress Labour made in improving school food. This will take us back to the days of junk food vending machines in schools, and Turkey Twizzlers on the menu."
