Mary's Christmas Card Winners Receive Prizes
Wakefield MP Mary Creagh held a prize giving ceremony for the winners and runners-up in her annual schools Christmas card competition at the Wakefield Theatre Royal this week. The winning entry was designed by Karin Meskova, aged 10, from Lawefield Lane Primary School. Nearly 4000 copies of the card are being sent all over the world.
Mary presented the winner with a cheque for £50.00 – donated by the Nationwide Building Society - and a pair of tickets to see Dick Whittington at the theatre on 23rd December. There were seven runners-up who will also be going to the theatre with Mary on the same afternoon. Over 300 school children entered the competition and certificates will be sent to everyone who took part soon.
Mary Creagh said: “I was impressed with the standard of entries this year and I am grateful to everyone who took part in the competition. It was lovely to meet the pupils at the Theatre Royal and I’m looking forward to seeing them all again on 23 December when we are going to see Dick Whittington!”
“I would like to thank the sponsors of my card, UNISON, the Nationwide Building Society and of course Wakefield Theatres for their kind donations.”
