Prime Minister visits Wakefield

Mary invited the Prime Minister to Wakefield at the end of October to see the work being done to tackle anti-social behaviour in the city.  Gordon Brown and Mary spoke to Wakefield's Neighbourhood Policing Teams and residents about their work in tackling nuisance crime.

Council Leader Peter Box and Cllr Olivia Rowley also met with the PM and Mary at Wakefield Town Hall.  The Prime Minister met a lot of local people on a walk around the city centre, including Jonathan Greener, Dean of Wakefield Cathedral, and members of Street Angels who talked about how anti-social behaviour is being tackled in the city.

Mary commented: “I was thrilled to be able to bring the Prime Minister to our great city.  Wakefield is now the safest city in West Yorkshire in which to live, which is down to the fantastic work our police teams are doing.”

She continued: “The police have a large role to play in tackling anti-social behaviour, but parents and families are important too. I want to see more parenting orders in place to make sure that parents take responsibility for the actions of their children.”
