Yorkshire Post launch ‘fair deal for Yorkshire’ campaign
On 11 July, Mary pledged her support for the Yorkshire Post’s new campaign for a ‘fair deal for Yorkshire’:
She said: “I support the Yorkshire Post’s new campaign for a Fair Deal for Yorkshire. Despite the downturn, there were 216 million tourist visits to Yorkshire last year. This is down to our natural beauty, our fantastic cities and the work of our growing tourism businesses. Yorkshire Forward is investing £10 million in Welcome to Yorkshire this year to boost our visitor economy during the Olympics. However, from April 2012 there will be no funding, due to the Government’s reckless decision to axe Yorkshire Forward. The Tory-led Government is going too far, too fast with its cuts, threatening Yorkshire’s future prosperity and jobs.”
The paper has delivered notice of the campaign to Downing Street. www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/business/business-news/number_10_gets_notice_of_our_fair_deal_fight_1_3575162
