Mary meets Wakefield scientist

Mary and Dr Gilkeson

Mary kicked off National Science and Engineering week on 14 March by welcoming Wakefield scientist Dr Carl Gilkeson to Parliament.

Dr Gilkeson, who lives in Horbury, is a research fellow in the Pathogen Control Engineering Institute at the University of Leeds. He was in Westminster to present a project which could help to reduce the incidence of infections in hospitals.

Mary said "It was great to meet Dr Gilkeson who is doing vital work at the University of Leeds. I was also pleased to add my support to National Science and Engineering week, which was a great opportunity to show the public's support for the important work our scientific research community do."

Dr Gilkeson said "National Science and Engineering week promotes cutting edge research currently taking place throughout the UK with the goal of inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers."
