Wakefield's £250m hospital fully open

Mary joined Ed Balls on a tour of Wakefield's new £250m Pinderfields Hospital on Friday 11 March.

The MPs met with local people, patients and staff to celebrate the complete opening of this long-awaited state-of-the-art new hospital.

Mary said "I'm delighted that Wakefield's state of the art hospital is finally fully open. This is the first new hospital in the city for 130 years."

Julia Squire, Chief Executive of the Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, said: “Patients are benefiting from new and improved facilities to offer the best possible care in the best possible environment. Along with our excellent modern hospital in Dewsbury, our two new hospitals are putting Mid Yorkshire at the forefront of healthcare and patients are benefiting from new models of care across all three hospitals that will save lives, reduce disability and improve patient outcomes. It is important that we continue to improve our services and keep up to date with the latest developments so that local people benefit from the best possible care. With our new service models and hospitals we have, now, the best chance to do this.”
