Mary warns government "this land is our land"
Labour's Shadow Environment Secretary Mary Creagh has launched a website protesting against the Tory led government’s attempt to sell off England’s forests, as part of the Public Bodies Bill.
Mary said, “It is vital that people have their say over the Tory-led Government’s act of environmental vandalism. I am calling on the Conservative-led Government to allow a debate in the House of Commons to ensure MPs have a say on the proposals to sell off England’s forests. People can also express their views on this vital matter at www.thislandisourland.org.uk– which I have launched today. Their proposals will destroy the funding system which has protected England's forests for nearly 100 years. The future of many forested areas could be put at risk, and voluntary groups will be left to look after ancient woodlands without a budget. The true value of England's forests will never be reflected in the price the Tory-led Government gets from selling them.”
Visit www.thislandisourland.org.uk to sign the petition and put pressure on the Tory-led government to think again.
