Mary Creagh welcomes Rwandan Member of Parliament to Westminster

On Tuesday 26 October, Mary welcomed Henriette Mukamurangwa, a Member of the Rwandan Parliament, to the House of Commons. They discussed key policy issues, attended meetings and met with Labour leader Ed Miliband.
Hon. Henriette Mukamuranga was one of four Rwandan politicians visiting the United Kingdom. She was invited, with three colleagues, by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). The CPA seeks to bring UK Parliamentarians and those from other Commonwealth countries together to foster greater communication, cooperation and understanding between parliamentary democracies in the Commonwealth.
Mary and Ms Mukamurangwa discussed parliamentary democracy in the UK: the roles of the two chambers and of the Speaker; the work of parliamentary committees and the relationship between parliament and the media. They also discussed important policy issues shared by their two countries, such as climate change, security, development and human rights.
Mary Creagh said: "I was delighted to meet Henriette. I enjoyed showing her what a typical day in the House of Commons was like and we talked at length about the issues we deal with as parliamentarians. We both learnt a lot and I would like to thank the CPA for giving me the opportunity to meet Henriette".
