Mary slams ConDems for ditching dangerous dogs clampdown

Mary Creagh MP has slammed the Tory/Lib Dem government decision to ditch a planned crackdown on dangerous dogs. 

The Labour government drew up tough laws to protect people from savage pets and proposed to microchip every dog so that owners could be held to account for attacks by their animals.  The plans were supported by animal charities like the RSPCA but will not now happen because Tory/Lib Dem Ministers think that people would simply ignore the law.

Mary said "This government is destroying much of the progress Labour made on so many issues.  The news that they've scrapped our plans to tighten the Dangerous Dogs Act will be heartbreaking for the families of dog attack victims. 
"I'd like to see a complete overhaul of the Dangerous Dogs Act to give police and the courts much more extensive powers to deal with all breeds. I also want to see out-of-control dogs confiscated and guilty owners banned from having dogs in the future"
