Mary Welcomes Government Cash Boosts for Wakefield

Wakefield Council has received two cash boosts totalling £380 000 from the Government to run Child Poverty Family Intervention Projects and reduce anti-social behaviour. 

The first project recognises the link between poverty and anti-social behaviour.  The money will be used to tackle barriers to employment such as poor health and low skills.  It will also provide new Family Intervention workers to work with problem families to lift them out of poverty and reduce behavioural problems.  

The second cash boost is £54 000 from the Government to extend victim support services, help set and publicise minimum standards of police service, and step up action against people who breach their ASBOs.   

Local MP Mary Creagh welcomed the investment which comes on the back of her successful listening campaign on anti-social behaviour over the summer.   

Mary said: "I am pleased that more money is coming to Wakefield from the government. The Prime Minister has been to Wakefield to see the great work being done but we are not complacent.  The link between poverty and anti-social behaviour has never been clearer so I am delighted at this extra boost for Wakefield services.  Criminals will be punished, but victims will be supported and families who want to change will receive help."
