Mary Gets Mobility Ramp for Vulnerable Pensioner

Mary visited Gill Syke Bungalows at the invitation of constituent Kathleen Wigglesworth this week (6th November).  Mrs Wigglesworth invited Mary to see her new mobility ramp which, thanks to the MP's intervention, has finally been installed after a wait of two years.

Mrs Wigglesworth, who is 80 years old, was housebound for two years as her request for a ramp was turned down by her landlord, Wakefield and District Housing.  She asked Mary to look into it and as a result of the MP's pressure a ramp has now been installed.

Mrs Wigglesworth said: "I have a wheelchair and there were three steps outside my house. It was terrible to get up and down - those steps almost killed me. Three steps doesn't sound like a lot but to me it was like Everest. This ramp has made a big difference to me."

Mary said: "When I first met this lady she wa a prisoner in her own home. I was deeply upset when i went to see her back in August.  When I saw her last week she was like a changed person."

"She told me she had been out shopping and that the new ramp had made all the difference to her quality of life. This just goes to show that something as simple as a ramp can make all the difference to elderly and vulnerable people."
