Mary Asked To Serve As Government Whip
From 9th June, Mary Creagh, Labour MP for Wakefield has a new job as Government Whip in the Department of Health.
She becomes the latest representative of Wakefield to serve as a Government Whip, following Rt Hon Walter Harrison who was MP for Wakefield from 1964 to 1987 and was a whip in the Callaghan Government from 1966 to 1970.
It is a welcome return to the Department of Health for Mary, who previously served as PPS to new Health Secretary Andy Burnham when he was a junior minister in the Department. She also chaired the Prime Minister's Manifesto Group on Public Health in 2008.
Mary Creagh, MP for Wakefield said: "I am delighted and honoured to have been asked by the Prime Minister to serve as a Government Whip in the Department of Health. I look forward to being a part of the team that delivers the Health Bill through the House of Commons to further improve the quality of NHS care and services."
