Kirkgate plans on track

Wakefield MP Mary Creagh has welcomed plans to improve Wakefield's Kirkgate train station.

Wakefield Council is working with Groundwork, Network Rail, Northern Rail, Grand Central rail, Rail Heritage Trust and METRO to rejuvenate the station, creating space for community groups and businesses. Funding bids have been submitted, architects appointed and detailed plans produced which will be subject to consultation before Christmas.

Mary said "We've already made good progress at the station since the visit of Lord Adonis in 2009. The car park has been resurfaced, allowing the free citybus to stop there, and CCTV is in place. I fully support the Council and Groundwork's plans for the station and the wider area and I look forward to seeing more progress over the next few months."
